Jussie Smollett to be sued by Chicago after failure to repay city in case
As of midnight last night “Empire” star, Jussie Smollett has missed the deadline set by the city of Chicago to pay for the $130 thousand in court costs and other fees revolving around the investigation into his alleged falsified attack claims from January.
Smollett was charged with 16 felonies after authorities concluded that his January 29th claim was a hoax only to have all charges against him dropped March 26th. The Windy City, under its by-laws, can seek up to three times as much as the initial cost which is estimated to be more than $390,000 from the actor, which is three times the original amount plus court and attorney costs. With his what apparent flat out refusal to pay the city imposed tab Smollett must prepare for another day in court all on the heels of being wrote out of the final two episodes of this season Fox smash hit.
This leaves his future with the franchise up for debate with many speculating that he may not be returning, however, co-star and series lead Taraji P. Henson has gone on record saying that he is indeed expected to return if the show is renewed for another season.
The Academy Award nominated actress who plays Cookie Lyon on the show told the view when asked about her feelings on his charges being dropped she stated that she was “happy that the truth was finally set free” and they are preparing for their sixth season expecting Smollett to return.

Reports say that newly elected Lori Lightfoot, who is the city’s first African American female mayor, will be looking into what all went into the case.
Smollett has of yet made any statements to the public about his current situation.
